Members of Waveney Valley Model Railway Club have decided that it would be difficult to continue running a two-day exhibition on a scale as hitherto at Saint Felix School.
It was decided that Southwold Model Railway Exhibition 2019 will not now take place.
The unfortunate fact is that there is essentially a large workload for our club members before, during and after the two public days.
We are all proud to have been a part of this well respected event, some of our members having been involved annually over the full thirty years. Many thanks to those members who have helped make Southwold what it has been, some in less obvious jobs such as catering and those volunteers who have manned the ticket desks at the door.
A huge thank you also goes out to all who have supported our exhibition over the years from the model railway press; traders, societies, demonstrators, exhibitors with layouts; Halesworth & District Model Engineering Society with live-steam rides; Anglian Roads gauge 1 live-steam; Graham “the mad hatter” (who’s come all the way from Chesterfield) selling raffle tickets; And I’m sure there must be more I’ve not mentioned.
Our Club President, Richard Spendlove MBE who gave us radio plugs on his then Saturday evening regional radio show, a former career railwayman and who has been our special guest, along with his wife Betty, for some years.
Most of all our thanks must go to our visitors, some of whom have travelled often considerable distances to get to Southwold. I have often joked that we didn’t get many visitors from the East! The farthest West we’ve known to have had visitors from has been New England - no, not Peterborough, but the USA!
